check out pics in the other thread. Look closely at the 25 fishing boat.
its a great looking boat in my opinion. the new 244 is a good looking boat too, just not in the traditional styling of checkmate. I too agree that just putting a different name on it is a huge shortcut. I would have liked to have seen some deck changes too! I understand the molds are expensive but.............
anyway, look at the boat in this link and compare to the fishing boat.

First; yes, the fish boat is a direct splash of the Baja Islander Sportfish 25. Second, it's alot easier to make "soft" changes than tooling changes. If you compare the interior shots of the old Baja and "new" Checkmate you will see that Doug Smith incorporated Checkmate's new seats, interiors, gunnel panels with drink holders, etc. into the new Baja based models. I'm sure Doug's intent is NOT to discontinue Checkmate's heritage and popular models...Checkmate has just finished tooling and building some of the best boats in their history (Pulsare 2400, BRX, etc.). I'm sure the Baja molds were layed up with Checkmate's quality construction which is by far better than what was done years ago at Baja. I'll repeat what I said in one of my earlier posts; in tough times businesses need to do whatever they can to capture market share and stay afloat. This was the easiest and most cost effective way for Checkmate to branch out and look for a new audience...I applaud their efforts...does it mean I'll buy one, no. But as long as they're building boats that include Pulsares, ZT's, Convincors, etc. they may certainly earn my hard earned $$$ in the future.
