"TOP SECRET CHECKMATE" PIC'S

check out pics in the other thread. Look closely at the 25 fishing boat.
its a great looking boat in my opinion. the new 244 is a good looking boat too, just not in the traditional styling of checkmate. I too agree that just putting a different name on it is a huge shortcut. I would have liked to have seen some deck changes too! I understand the molds are expensive but.............

anyway, look at the boat in this link and compare to the fishing boat.

First; yes, the fish boat is a direct splash of the Baja Islander Sportfish 25. Second, it's alot easier to make "soft" changes than tooling changes. If you compare the interior shots of the old Baja and "new" Checkmate you will see that Doug Smith incorporated Checkmate's new seats, interiors, gunnel panels with drink holders, etc. into the new Baja based models. I'm sure Doug's intent is NOT to discontinue Checkmate's heritage and popular models...Checkmate has just finished tooling and building some of the best boats in their history (Pulsare 2400, BRX, etc.). I'm sure the Baja molds were layed up with Checkmate's quality construction which is by far better than what was done years ago at Baja. I'll repeat what I said in one of my earlier posts; in tough times businesses need to do whatever they can to capture market share and stay afloat. This was the easiest and most cost effective way for Checkmate to branch out and look for a new audience...I applaud their efforts...does it mean I'll buy one, no. But as long as they're building boats that include Pulsares, ZT's, Convincors, etc. they may certainly earn my hard earned $$$ in the future.

Partly! If these boats were selling like hot cakes, no problem. But they are not. That is why I stand behind what they are doing. Survival! It's not that Doug can't let go of the past, but the chance was there and he took it. The story about those molds going to the dump and the driver taking a wrong turn is real close to the truth! Small investment for a possible big return. I would rather see them sell a few boats to the brand-x customers and keep the doors open. This is better than 2 or 3 years down the road wanting to order a new 2400 Pulsare and having to call BassPro Shops to do so because Checkmate went bankrupt and Tracker Marine bought the molds. That is my point of view, share the name and the quality with a couple of different style boats, or buy that good looking Convincor with tape graphic's and chopper gun construction from an entry level boat builder. WOW! I didn't know you had a 4 wheel drive. You have scared me soooo bad, I had to go back and fix 37 spelling mistakes! By the way, as young as you are, being able to beat up an over weght out of shape 48 year old man, would not be anything to be proud of or brag about. On the other hand, getting thumped by that same fat ole man? How about we leave it at that? boatman

This company has to stay in business some how and like it or not, they have already dodged the bullet once. If you people were true to your favorite brand, you stand behind them and support them, not trash talk them on the internet for others to see. This is a PUBLIC site.

i agree on this argument. the lines zt, convinsor, pulsare says one thing to the buyer. SPEED. nothing more. no family boat. was the new 2400 a big sales hit?
selling hundreds a week?
sales in different markets is what checkmate will make it into the next century.

on the other hand: for a checkmate mind to sticker a baya with a checkmate decal is not funny.

i was wondering where the moulds came from? is brunswick so stupid not to trash them???? after use and ending the model sales???

to mr smith..

i know there are few rinker moulds for sale.... 27 foot... 24 foot. i saw it on the net...

new family line checkmate... diesel engine, low emissions, fun for the family.

i guess if someone could post some stats on this new boat maybe that would clear a few things up.....

motor baja? checkmate?
outdrive baja? checkmate?
horsepower baja? checkmate?
top speed baja? checkmate?
price baja? checkmate?
guages baja? checkmate?
number of women expected to be around the boat?
ect......ect.....ect.....

maybe this would clarify a few of the disputes going on knowing if c-mate actually did some improvments up to the "c-mate standards".

Damn I had alot of reading to catch back and I am glad to see nobody punched their computer over the Retro h2X by Beckmate.

BOATMAN

If only 2 or 3 people on this board are going to buy a new boat anyway what difference does it make what we say.

But I feel you are wrong on that post because most of us have bought something from Checkmate it might not be a new boat but most of us have bought parts.

And if it was not for me buying my used Convincor the guy I bought it from would have not been able to buy his new Checkmate.

I will say this again most of Checkmates problems I know in a 400 mile radius of me is everybody thought Checkmate went out of biz years ago. Poor advertisement. I have only seen 2 New Checkmates and I had to drive to Ohio to seen 1 of them. And the other one was SCT's.

My first Checkmate I bought I had to drive to Kentucky and get and my second one I had to drive to Ohio

And yes Checkmate did get a new dealer here in NC and they where a no Show at our local boat run when asked to come. When they new I would be their, SCT would be their and also Checkmate stopped buy with a KICK A$ $ Convincor on the way to FL

Advertisement is Checkmates problem they are making some cool looking boats now but Nobody can see them unless sombody looks on their site,

Maybe somebody can get off their $$s and post some new models on the site once a month.

And this post is for you Dean and Doug Smith maybe you should pay me to advertise your new Checkmates for you. I have proved myself time after time on how to get peoples attention on the web.

And Holiday and XT Boasting about that new Beckmate did not help. They talked so much about this new boat and how good Checkmate is but failed to mention any of the other Checkmate models thats what pissed me off. And the fact that its all because the only people working at Checkmate now are straight from baja from the shut down thats why the new Beckmate is awesome.

So sit back for a minute Doug and think about how us loyal Checkmate owners feel.

big red......what about the specs? can you dig them up for us????? i would love to see if it is a true checkmate or not:irked:

Wow.. What a thread.

Personally, I like Baja boats. The way I see it is now Chekmate can improve the build quality of already good designs. I wanted to see fresh new designs, but this is a great oportunity to broaden their market share for a minimum investment. Good idea. I don't understand all the Baja hating going on, but whatever. I am still VERY interested in the 250. There are very few boats in that size range to compete with it. It is a great do it all boat for my family on Lake Erie... Fish, Ski, Tube, Cruise, and go pretty quick for what it is. Oh, and do it on real open water of Lake Erie.

People need to chill... it's not like these boats are replacing existing models or anything. Buy what you like, enjoy, be happy, let others do the same :thumb:

Boatman....Boatwoman....Boatsissy.

WHICH ONE IS IT???? LOL

Gary you must admit, that was pretty good! :rof:

Take it easy guys.

Craig, calm down Big Fella. I can see you really love your Checkmates and I appreciate that.

If you guys wanna beef, bring it to New England in June,July, or August. We will settle this with a couple 30 packs on the 2100 (I think Craig and Boatman both remember how to drive one of those), but once the beer starts flo'n, I will make the Wifey drive!

This whole discussion is very simple. It works like this:

A. Checkmate already had several boats in it's line that did not appeal to my wallet. There are now two more.

B. Checkmate has several boats in it's line that do appeal to my wallet, and if I had the bank to purchase a new one, I would, such as the 2100, 2400BRX, 2800 OBX, 330 convincor Dual (assuming they still make it), etc.

Until A. negatively impacts B. I do not care.

On the day when A. does negatively impact B. I will be saddened, and then just go find a high quality used version of whatever I want on the secondhand market, and spend the spare cash getting it professionally touched up if need be.

Also, say what you want, I personally am happy to find any boating enthusiasts anymore, no mater what they drive. We're not as numerous as we were 15 or 20 years ago. If they want to buy a Baja or a Donzi or a fountain or whatever, fine with me. I would have spent that money on a checkmate, but we can still go have fun on the water together.

Something is wrong with your alegerbra...

You state that the 2800OBX and 330 Convincor appeal to your wallet more than the two new models????

I hope the new models are well under 100 Grand, cuz if they are not, they are over priced.

If the 2800 and 330 appeal more to your wallet because they are more pleasing to your eye, then I totally agree!:thumb:

Hah maybe I should have phrased it differently.

Ok, If I had the money to purchase the new ZT 244, I wouldn't. I'd buy something else.

If I had the money to purchase an OBX 2800, I would.

That's what I meant by "appealing to my wallet". I guess I should have said "worth the money to me". I don't buy cheaper versions of things I want, if I can help it. I either buy what I really want or do without.

Dude I have one thing to say to you go buy a DAMN BAJA THEN :bigthumb:

It's like sports teams or presidential candidates... People take things to heart that they probably shouldn't.

IF YOU DON'T HAVE HEART YOU AINT GOT SH I T YOU NEED TO TAKE A STEP BACK AND TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND REALIZE WHAT YOU JUST POSTED.

One thing I think needs discussion.

The word 'Splash' has been used several times. 'Splash' in the boating industry is a bad word. I do not think it applies here.

A 'splash' is when a dude takes a boat of someone else's design, builds a mold off it, then uses the mold to make new boats under his own name. Most often the new dude changes a few minor things in the design.

The boats in discussion here are built using the original molds, probably either legally obtained or Fountain doesn't care, and sold under a different name.

Again, I don't think 'splash' applies here.
