"TOP SECRET CHECKMATE" PIC'S

i've been diggin' around the net for a few minutes and found that you can't find much info on the h2x, best i can tell from the factory they had 310hp and weighed 3900 lbs also had a bravo drive.

went to c-mates website and found all the info i wanted on the zt240.
425hp,3600lbs. i would have to say the zt is much more of a power boat than the h2x........with that said i was wondering if c-mate made any changes to the h2x/244zt?

Craig--
We've got around 40 Baja's on this lake (Saylorville/ Des Moines) and almost all of them came from Dubuque. We call them 'Ozark bayliners'. I guess the Dubuque dealer and the Omaha Baja dealer had some turf wars over Des Moines. Dubuque won. There are probably 5 mates on our lake and three of them are very old. A late model 24 Mate has a blower and is pretty fast.

There are two very nice mates that show up for the Rally at Cassville (near you): all black w/ yellow stripe 21 pulsare(?) and merc 225 and another w/ a 300xs. I think they're from around Dubuque. There used to be a mate dealer in Durango but that was beers ago. I bought mine in Iowa City (85).

Maybe I'll see you at the Rally. (red/black bassboat/merc)

You mentioned how slow baja's were ('Speed Changes You'): We had a local with a 252 or a 272. He was a professional engine builder and put gobs of power into that thing--67 mph. I believe the 272 is now under issue as a Checkmate (bad joke).
Story #2. (I don't make this stuff up). A brand spankin' new H2x with 502(?) power was racing a nearly new Hammer with 454 Mag power. I decided to join in and beat them both with a 115 (not a 150) Johnson Fastrike on a 20 footer.--That's embarrassing.

Dude I have one thing to say to you go buy a DAMN BAJA THEN :bigthumb:

I just might... But it will have the name Checkmate on it :poke: Some of you may not be able to deal with that, but it doesn't bother me one bit.

No offense to forum members, but it seems to me that the vast majority of folks around here aren't buying new boats anyways so this probably isn't the target demographic that Checkmate had in mind. I think this was a wise move and I wish them luck. Once I get to see the 250, I may even vote with my wallet.

Whatever floats your boat

According to Kip, the 244zt has a 496HO(425hp) and runs in the 70's. But I'm not sure exactly how fast or if that is gps, or speedo. I have a friend who has Baja BR, I think it's a 242, with the lower hp 496. It run's 61 gps. It is a heavy boat. boatman

the 272 will run 66-67 with a stock 502 mag, if he put gobs of power and was an engine builder it cant say too much for his abilities. my business partner has a 272 502 with a 5psi procharger and it runs a modest 76-77. i believe the h2x was a fairly good running boat, as a matter of fact, i think (Big Red and his research here may help) an h2x with "gobs" of power ran triple digits one year at the shoot out in the ozarks when i was there. i would say 3 or 4 years ago.

most of the bajas can run fairly well with modest power, i think apples for apples the checkmates will be a 2-4mph depending on the hull.

by no means am i justifying anything in this thread, i just choose to speak the truth. and unless that 115 was pushing your boat over 65 mph i dont think you were truly "racing" anyone.

no BS here. i will do some research too!

The pics are all over here of it. Go get one the boatrader has some for sale and you can get a H2 their to. Did you ever stop and think why Fountain was sending them to the dump. Because they are butt ugly. I thought the fish boat looked okay but the side shots make it look like the H2 with a hole cut out of the middle.

Here is a good post from a guy that used to sell them.

Re: Baja 250 Sportfish Now The Checkmate SFX 250
I couldn't give one of those bobbing corks away when we sold them.... I always cringed when I was told to order one.... ugh..... Give it some beam and some large coffin boxes (that didn't fall through the floor when you put ice in them) and then "maybe" we could have sold it....

Sorry guys....gotta say I am not happy to see this re-birth... I know there are peeps out there that like them....JMO....
MR BAJA!

You are partially correct...Baja was born out of retired Checkmate molds..but to my knowledge, no Checkmates (until now) came from Baja molds...

Ive been out of the checkmate site for a bit of time now since im looking for a 28ft Offshore boat. The only reason that everyone is upset is that they dont like the round look of baja. Nor do i. But if they would of picked up a mold from Cigarette or a Don Arrow Hull then all of them guy would of been upset about Checkmate having the molds. as a few have said that its natural to share molds but most of them that get used are a cigarette or apache style with flat deck. Its all about build quality.

I guess the best of luck to the Brand but im still looking for a non-checkmate for my next boat.

what is your reasoning for buying something other than a checkmate?

don't like my opinion...so what!

Wow, take a couple weeks off from visiting the site and miss
a good pissing match! I love a good debate, especially when
the topic is good, leave it to BR to get some sh1t flowing..lol

and all that "tuff" talk, gotta love the tuff guys making threats
from many miles away over the internet..lol.. I just wonder how
tuff the talk would be if we were all hanging out on the same
dock?? Meow:shakehead:

Debates aren't meant to be personal dudes, express an opinion
and hear one, or 30, then move on - I just had a flashback to
the high school daze. Come on now fellas...

Now, my take: Baja=mass produced poor quality and everybody
has one, whooopeee. Checkmate=top quality badass looking
boats that a small percentage of us get to showcase!! Everywhere
I go someone is complimenting my convincor, we all cant drive
Checkmates, I have a few friends that boat in a Baja, and though
I much prefer my boat to theirs, I still let them hang out with us
and we all have a good time, even those with a Formula chill out
and party with us on the h20 and nobody gives a sh1t whos driving
what..pack a cooler, go boating, have a good time no matter what
you drive! (but you'd never catch me owning a Baja or a Bajamate)

nicely said-and you will never catch me walking a yorkie down the road either...... my doberman and shepard-mix will do for now, along w/ my starflite:cheers:

Whoa, tough crowd here! This might beat all the Apache threads and Reggie bashing threads combined!

I wish nothing but the best for Checkmate. This town cant afford to lose anymore jobs.

UNINFORMED on 28 foot Offshore style boats...

24 deg V-hull no pad=283 and 300 Convincors. Excellent Big water boats, no debate here.

To begin I'll start by saying I have no particular ax to grind here; I've only owned a checkmate for a year; it is a non-functioning project boat, that is still several months from being completed... That being said, I have come to appreciate the quality of the Checkmate like no other boat I have ever worked or played with. I have also come to admire our checkmate family on this forum because if I live to be a hundred, most of you will forget more about checkmates, than I will ever know.

But I must say......

Fella's, I think many of you are looking at this all kinda bass ackwards. Checkmate has taken a hull(s) that were kicked to the curb by Fountain and turned them into exceptional performance boats. The H2X Boss ran low 60's when DS had it; fountain took one very quick look and tossed it(arrogance) and now Checkmate has improved it's hull; trimmed a quarter ton; and has it(new/old ZT 244) running low 70's with less horsepower. If anything Checkmate has thrown the gauntlet down to Fountain and in essence has said " we'll take your rejects and still kick your ass!" How embarrassing for Fountain. Stop and think about it for a moment; that is a clear indication as to just how good this boat building company is; and of their consistent legacy of excellence.

Be proud; you're riding in the best boats stem to stern ever built.... and you will continue to do so.

And FWIW.....if your boats got one of these on the stearn......

...... you're gonna get alot more of these on your deck :thumb:

Hotdaddy, thats with an "e" not an "i" :D

Regarding youth and age.......The young bull says to the older bull as they are cresting a hill " Hey there's a herd of cows over there; let's run down and get one of 'em:bounce:" The older bull say's " No my ladd; let's both walk and have them all:cool:"

old hick- can you prove what you say? w/ c-mate making the h2x better? quote:trimmed a quarter ton"????? i have been looking for stats!!!!!!!-ross-

Hickory- I don't know for a fact but I believe the Miami boat was the 1st one out of the mold and has never been run.

Now the beckmate is running low 70's it was at mid 70's the only water that boat has seen came from a garden hose

roflrofl.gif I say 35 tops

Okay my bad......I was going on two quotes in this thread.....it appears I miss read them....

so i'm gettin my 240's mixed up with my 244's; 3600 lbs and 3900 lbs; 300lb difference thats close enough to a quarter ton if you're drinkin tequila; which I am BTW. Oh....240 and 244 they both have a 2 and a 4 in 'em. I'll stand by my preface:

said by me

I have also come to admire our checkmate family on this forum because if I live to be a hundred, most of you will forget more about checkmates, than I will ever know.

Since I am being extremely humble at this point....I pray the checkmate gods will cut me some slack; for I did lay one truth at the alter of misfortune for which no one can argue

And FWIW.....if your boats got one of these on the stearn......
