"TOP SECRET CHECKMATE" PIC'S

Guys, In my opinion the reasons the Baja molds made it over to Checkmate is (A) because they were not being used anymore and Fountain wasnt going to produce this model. (B) Checkmate employs a bunch of recent ex-Baja employees that are good people with thier heart in the right place and they have connections, this one was saving the mold from the shredder. (C) As mentioned before it is easier, quicker and cheaper to "splash" a mold, then design and engineer a new one. (D) Doug Smith has a bunch of history with Baja, so he can back up this "idea" on his name alone. (E) The H2X was a popular 24' and it did not ever have any of the issues that were seen in various year Outlaws, anotherwords a tried and very proven hull and design.

I agree with many of you that say the top deck should have taken on a life of its own, but then you are back to the designing and engineering thing. Baja spent alot of time and money to get the H2X right and right it was. I feel for you guys with this boat being produced under Checkmates name, we have the very same dilemma with Fountain.

Boatman,
I don’t stand behind anything until I take my last breath except for God and my family……….certainly not a boat company! And like I said, you’re the one crying because the rest of us aren’t as “Loyal” as you are. I’m a checkmate fan, and I’ll buy a new one again if they stay unique, but I wouldn’t buy that p.o.s. new 24’er or any other boat that looks similar to it, and if this is the start of a new direction for them, I’ll take my business elsewhere in a heartbeat. I don’t owe them or any other manufacturer anything.

Boatman,

What are you some kind of brainwashed checkmate worshiper?....to the death man!!!!

F%&k that. Get some balls.

-Craig

As a matter of fact I am! Along with a few hundred other people on this site. That is what this site is all about. If you don't like it, just shut your pie hole and quit crying because YOU don't like the way someone else does business or takes care of there own money. Craig, it is people like you who that Bayliners were made for. Go get you one and shut the F$$k UP! I am sick of it. Put on your big girl panties and deal with it! "IDIOT"!

easy fellas......

I do have one question..... while baja made a ton of boats and as is obvious from any lake, river or beach, sold quite a few of them, while checkmate made fewer boats and sold fewer boats, why did baja go under and checkmates still going? I dont see building a boat design from a company that went out of business as anything remotely close to a good business decision, regardless of how many they sold, if anything that should be another reason not to build it, the markets already flooded with this boat no?

Although boatman is right, im not gonna be buying a "new" boat for quite a while, so who am I to listen to, Id rather buy old ones and rebuild them anyways and not deal with the original owner depreciation you get when you take it off the lot.

Thats easy, BIG corporations and small family owned companys do business is very different ways. With family owned companys, your less likely to piss your own money away, with a corp like Brunswick, you have a certain budget, if you don't spend it, you won't get as much next year. From what I've heard there was a lot of money getting pissed away across town.

Ya know, It's funny how this started as a few friends poking each other and voicing there opinion and then you have one guy start calling names and being a total a$$(could be talking about my self?). Anyway, Baja did sell alot of these boats because someone liked the looks. They went out of business because of poor quality and warranty issues. If they had built a quality product, like Checkmate does, they would still be around. I have owned 5 new Checkmate's and if I buy another, it won't be the 244ZT. But what is wrong with making this style available to those who do like it. They make different things for different people. Every one is free to make there own choice and I will never have to walk in another man's shoes being responsible for the decisions that he makes. Only the ones I make. And by the way BIG R, if I can get my motta running right, I'll be down this summer. I still owe you a burger and a beer! boatman:cheers:

In none of my posts was I crying. To sum it up, I basically said that the new 24’ is a baja which is the truth. I said that they (checkmate) have totally lost me with this whole thing. I said I don’t think this 24’ is needed and I don’t think it will work. I did not tell you what to do or say or think so don’t tell me what to do or what to say or think unless you are one big mofo.

I AM a checkmate fanatic, I can’t even remember now how many I have owned in the last 17 years. But I am the customer, and have the ultimate say in what I like. I don’t live or die for a boat manufacturer, apparently you do, so that makes you the idiot. I said I would continue to buy em if they continue to make them unique, but not if this H2X style or similar style takes over.

What part of that don’t you understand?

combs wouldnt let baja/cobra use certain colers and absoultly no metal flake. from what i have heard and baja paid a percent to combs for using molds.

i wish i had pics of that 16 cobra i have but it is up in a rack building.

this is how baja started and also how it got its name.
There was also a 14' Cobra, as well as the 16'. The 16 was simply a lengthened 14. Some boats were made in metal flake.

its like openin socks @ christmas when you were a kid ! ... u knew it was comin ,but didnt want to believe it ! there are way to many why's? what if's? etc n so on . i'm sure theres a reason hopefully employees are still workin . i as many other membors won't buy that model .

No Dude, You started getting all pi$$ed and bent out of shape. TALKING ABOUT HOW BIG i BETTER BE TO MAKE THESE STATEMENTS AND HOW BAD YOU ARE! YOU ARE JUST MAKING A BIGGER A$$ OUT OF YOUR SELF. Go back and read this thread from the beginning, It's an opinion thread, not a personal war as you seem to think. boatman

i like this forum because no one bashes on each other.....can we get back to that? we are all on here for 1 reason cause we love our checkmate boats......and with the way the economy is i don't think anyone is going to be rushing out to buy the 244 anyway, as long as i don't see 15 of them sitting next to each other on st. clair i'll be happy. would i buy one....no but would i buy one of the other models, for sure!! i am looking into a 2400 pulsare right now! i guess i would rather see them sell boats then shut down!! its definatly a unique boat and company and it can still be!

Yes I did, because I don’t need you telling me what to do. If that makes me an ASS than so be it. And I started the name calling???????? Don't think so. And yes I am one mean s.o.b if you want to call me out and say I am crying.

Let me get in on this...

"Your Mama"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

I don't like to see guys bickering, but it shows the passion people have for the brand.

OK, Let's try this again now that everyone has had a little kool down time. What started out as fun and entertaining now has one guy telling us how big and bad he is. I don't care about all that. Buy what you want! The sales records speak for themselves. I just spoke with Kip a little while ago and he confirmed, they still have all the classic Checkmate molds that we all love so much. Fork out the money and buy one. Because if you don't, you me be right. If they are not selling, they could go by by in the future. If you don't believe this, look at the big 3 auto makers. Congress is not going to help Checkmate, they have to help themselves. Bottom line is, if you are happy with what you have, keep it. If you want a new classic style C-mate, buy one. If you like the new Baja style c-mate, buy one. As for how tall I am and how much fat I can hang over the scales, doesn't really matter. Just don't be dumb enough to show up at my house to find out, my drive way is muddy as he11! :D boatsissy

Now boatman,
That is basically what I eluded to…….If you really want to see checkmate continue with it’s unique style the way it always has, buy a Combs era design ZT240 or Convincor 253/270 instead of the H2mate. You can support your favorite boat company and send them a message at the same time….Agreed? Re: muddy driveway – I do have 4-wheel drive.
