Tri-mate 2 over haul.

JW, WOW great minds think alike. I was thinking the same thing. The windshield is still on fair shape, but I was thinking smoke, low, swept back. One for each side.
Chris. The motor is still on the boat. I have a cherrypicker to lift it off. Thats next.

Your Trimate will deffinantly look cool with a sporty windshield, what color are you going to paint it?
The restoration looks top notch, your doing a greate job.
Have any of you played with blue printing the hull?

De-rigging the baot to do that very thing. Going to blueprint the bottom and install a pad.
The color is secret, for now, but I can say it will be a shocker.

They come in handy for more than just pulling engines.

I blueprinted may hull last winter, it was good for about 5 degrees less trim and a solid 2-3 MPH.
It did change the attitude and handling at slow speed, I ended up putting in 5 degree negative trim wedges to bring the nose down for ride and skiing. A small price to pay for speed.

F150GT, what did you find when you blueprinted your hull? It appears that my Enchanter is pretty straight, only that the corners are not sharp (very rounded). Was that what you found or were there other conditions present (rocker/hook)?

My Enchanters bottom wasnt to bad, between 1/8" and 3/16" of hook in the last 8" to 10". They have a heavy hook on the outside strake which I did not touch, it's out of the water at top speed. There was a good 1/8"+ rocker on the right side about 2' forward in the middle flat. I sanded them all dead flat and recleared it.

I have an old Thompson Sidewinder thats bean sitting on a roller trailer for ever, it has over 1/2" of hook on the tail. The boats not worth fixing.

Thats what I am going to do with mine, Make sure everything is streight and true. I have no hook so that is not a problem. Going to add a pad and let the boat fly. We shall see what happins.

Sounds cool, are you going to add any more set back than the jack plate in the pictures?
What speeds wer you getting before you started the restoration?

The current jackplate is 5.5" I have a set of 2" spacers that may get installed. I am going to see how it runs on just the plate.
The boat came with a homemade HYD jackplate with no set back. I could raise it all the way up and still only get the bullet to about 4.5" from the bottom, Had great water presure. So when I built the transom I made it so I could mount the engine higher. I am at 3.5" below the bottom right now. With the old set up I was running 68.9 on gps with 2 people and 8 gal of fuel. I came to believe the hull was the limiting factor. With 2 200+ lb guys, cooler, extra 6 gal of gas, and 2 teenagers the boat would still run 65 mph on GPS. The power is there I just have to get more boat out of the water to leat it fly better.

I've bean experimenting with set back on my buddys 20 Enchanter, I made a custom 14" set back bracket for, next I want to add a 4" jack plate to dial it better. last run out we had the height set at the prop shaft about 2" below the the bottom. Getting 70 GPS with a fresh Evinrude 235. When I get maximum speed we'll put the motor back direct to the transom for a tru comparison.

Fellas,

How crazy is the ride with that much setback? I don't have a plate. Just the old fashioned motor bolted on to the boat! Imagine that eh! Damn Canadians.

Anyway, what is it like to add the plate. Do you get more chine walk? Is the boat more stable? Less stable?

What I found with the old hyd jackplate was when it was all the way down the boat chined and pitched a fit. When the plate was all the way up, different boat. The boat brove better and had better manners at top speed. I could drive almost 70 with one hand. My son drove it up to about 60, he had no trouble, I got nervious. LOL

Mine walks a bit when trimmed up completely. If it's a little choppy it's happy, if it's like glass it starts to get bored and make it more exciting. It would be interesting to add a 5.5 plate. I'll probably buy a new boat before that happens though.

The boat deffinantly handles diffrent, not worse or better just a diffrent feel. with 14" setback the boat almost wags its tail instead of just chining, a real strange feel to get used too. I want to raise the motor another inch and try it again this weekend.

Transforming a tri-mate into a ski-mate.
I may have to raise the bar. Kind of close to the engine. The eye of the bar is about 3" above.

Well the boat adventure continues. Glassed the 2" riser for the ski pole. Still blending and shaping. Ran over the boat with the DA.
Filling in the low spots. I remember why I did not go into bodywork.
