What do you pull your checkmate with??

my dads 2011 ecoboost is a beast, pulling a 26ft enclosed trailer I beat my Fil's 2012 Chevy in a short race on the way to the lake and he wasn't towing anything...

Sweet truck man, wish I could afford one!

John, I was just going to start looking for an Ecoboost until my mechanic
told me they were having a large number of "Check Engine" light complaints with that motor. Not sure what the computor read outs indicated. Have you heard anything like that up your way?

Anyone else on the forum own a Ecoboost?

No check engine lights on Dads yet but it's only got 55k km's on it, around 34k miles I think that is, it hasn't been to the shop for anything but oil changes so far.

Haha.....Wait till your warranty runs out....that is when stuff starts wearing out on those "trucks." Expect major repairs between 60-90k miles. Been that way for all 10 in our fleet. Our 2010's reaching 80k need wheel bearings and ball joints. No towing, just driving. They are even well maintained! Don't get me started on the diesels either. There is a reason we got rid of all but one.

Nice looking truck though! I do really like the look, ride, and interior of the new Fords. The engines finally are getting some pep. The 06 5.4L I used to have was an absolute disaster of an engine. The new ones we get seem to run well and even the Ecoboost moves. They are stepping it up big-time. The durability still hasn't been improved IMO.

Im sure my warranty will run out long before it wears out. My silverado was an 09 with only 21,000.

I have 2 Silverados. 1 is my white 09 Z71 with the 5.3 that are known for using oil. I also have an 08 that is my every day driver that has the 4.8 and gets over 20mpg on the hwy. I have the 09 on the "oil consumption program" from my local dealer. They say it is normal to use 2 or so quarts between oil changes and how they can say it with a strait face and how they sleep at nite doing so is still a mystery to me. These 5.3 trucks are burning oil by the millions and still no recall. My 4.8 truck is amazing and everything is great. I bought both of these trucks brand new and consider my self a Chevy Man but just went to look at going back to Hemi Power.I had a new hemi quad cab and put 100k on it with absolutely no problems not even a brake job before trading in on a Silverado. I think all the new trucks have the good and bad but just cant see myself buying a V-6 truck. Seems to me alot of strain towing and longevity on a V-6. Just my 2 cents

My dad almost traded our 2004 ford f-150 in on new ecoboost when they first came out, but he went diesel instead. But that ecoboost is a really nice truck, I still like a V8 truck but I think if I ever bought a new truck I would probably buy the ecoboost since im a diehard ford person.

The V4 mode is the culprit there. With no combustion (pressure) happening in the inactive 4 cylinders to keep the piston rings sealed up, oil is getting by the rings and pooling on top of the pistons when it is in V4 mode for long periods of time. This happens on every one unfortunately.

On the flip side, I have the 8100 that just uses oil without any of those fancy reasons...haha. That is because of the extremely lean factory tuning damaging the rings and valve seals. 03 with 140k miles and runs like a Kenyan and still handles tightly.

I used to be a hardcore dodge guy then I went chevy after I had my dirtymax. I have also driven a ford almost every day for 6 years (work truck) and have had 3 different ones. If I was paying money and couldn't get a chevy, I would go back to a dodge before a ford. Just have not had good luck with the blue ovals. My mom drives an 07 F-350 King ranch dually. That has been a good truck. But the 3 she had before were lemons. The 06 F-350 she had actually needed lawyers to be involved. Everytime she would go cross-country with her goose-neck horse trailer to Arizona, it would break down as soon as it saw a mountain to climb. Left her stranded 4 times while under warranty and was bone stock. With the two F-250's I had as work trucks, one shattered injectors, needed 3 egr valves and a control module. The 08 I have now literally blew the radiator apart at 58k miles, eats batteries every 1.5 years, is going on it's 2nd EGR valve and has been in for numerous sensor problems. I just turned 80k miles. Most of our current fleet trucks have needed major unusual repairs by 80k miles.

My stepfather recently got an Ecoboost and it is a nice truck. Haven't had it long enough to determine reliability though.

OK, rant over. Sorry!

LOL! I went the other way. Die hard GM guy who was converted into a Mopar man after owning two Cummins Dodges. My wife's Venture being a harsh riding, rattling, wheelbearing eating, POS didn't help Chevy's case either. Trucks are a matter of picking your poison and trying to minimize the damages. I decided I could live with the crap front end and rusting doors of my 12 valve rather than the various electronic problems and questionable at best front ends of either of the other "modern" diesel choices. All of them will grenade the stock autos as soon as you turn the wick up a decent amount so that's not a factor. The simplicity of that motor with a manual trans behind it and a set of beefy solid axles under it keeps me driving that truck for over 10 years now without it ever leaving me stuck except for when I tried to make it to the next fuel stop when I should've stopped an exit before. DOH!

Just remember, they're all nice when they're new.

Lol that's my dad!! We have always had ford trucks, we had a 2011 ford f-250 6.7 diesel but then he bought a 43ft fifth wheel and traded the f-250 off on a 2012 RAM 3500 cummins dually because we would have been way over weight on the f-250. I think the cummins is a nice truck but ford deffenatly makes a way nicer truck if you ask me. We compare the ford to a Xbox 360 and the Ram to a Atari game system.:rof:

Not to continue this great debate on which truck is the best, but...
My family is die hard Ford people. We have, as a company, always owned ford. We have owned hundreds of fords over the years and never had any major issues with them. We stay on top of servicing them and they have all treated us well. Here are some pics of some of the old work fleet and some of the newer work fleet. The newer pic is from around the year 2000.

I was going to say, you sure do get a lot of use out of a truck before putting it out to pasture. But then the pics if from 2000.

Fords can be good trucks but they rot away before they stop running.

They all seem to have their own issues and we each have our own likes and experiences. Don't get me wrong, a Chevy isn't perfect either. I HATE the IFS front end of a Chevy. It rides very nice but I'll take a straight axle any day. Been thinking about swapping one under my 2500 because I need to do ball joints and bushings on mine. If I only had the pocketbook to back up the ideas in my head...haha. Triangulated 4-link suspension with air ride.....the ultimate HD suspension for the money.

I want the blue van in the first pic.

You want some Scooby snacks too?

I learned how to drive a stick on some of those old trucks, including the three on the column! I also remember the old trucks that were missing a good portion of the floor boards and getting a bath when the roads were wet:rof: I have to say, knock wood, they have all been good trucks - from the old 70's trucks to my 2011 and from Rangers to F750's, we haven't had any major problems with any!

Atari vs. X-Box is a great analogy. My Atari from 30 years ago is packed away but still worked the last time I tried it. Several of my buddies with X-Boxes on the other hand have not had such a great experience as far as reliability. LOL!

All of the, have their problems and all of them build an occasional lemon now and then. Roll the dice on what you like best is what I say, its your money after all.

I agree they all have there problems. I meant the inside of the fords are nicer, like the seats or more comfortable in the ford, the gauges in the ford are nicer. Just things like that, but the cummins motor on the other hand in the ram is a beast she pulls very good.

Decided the Suburban was just to big for using on a routine basis so it is getting put up for sale since this is its replacement. 2007 Range Rover Sport Supercharged. Always wanted one & so far it's been amazing. Helps that it still has 2 years left on a full coverage warranty:thumb:
