1988 Vision redo

The out drive came out pretty good ---- I didn't want to make an art project out of it, but I did make sure every piece/area of corrosion was dealt with.

And just when I thought I was done with powder coating....
Then came the seat pedistals ;)

Things get put on hold for a week or so as I'm flying overseas for buisness after today {timing is terrible} --- but I guess I need a rest from this anyway:shakehead:

Great Job

Kurt You did a Great Job on your outdrive My Friend. Have a Safe Trip and get some rest. Best Wishes Always Your Friend Sammie Action Marine

Looking good Kurt. Maybe next winter you should powder the outdrive. Has it ever been done before.

Actually I did think of doing it but I expect to have a different drive next year.
I did see it done on a Fountain at the Miami boat show a few years back {it was probably fusion coated}.
It was a green and yellow lightning with green surface drives, -- looked awesome.

Looking awesome Kurt! I would consider powdercoating an upper unit but probably not the lower. As much as (I at least) tend to get little nicks and paint chips on lowers from debris in water/bottom hits, the rest of the powder coat would begin to flake off as soon as water or corrosion got underneath from any small entry point. I think being able to sand and spray bomb the lower to keep it looking nice is easier. Plus with knowing that the lower will eventually impact something, I wouldn't put the money into the powdercoating. I just sanded and sprayed my upper with Rustoleum Appliance Epoxy and my noseconed lower with Rustoleum heavy duty Aluminum paint (wanted that sportmaster look). Turned out great!

Any idea what the plastic black piece is called that the seat rotate on ? That teflon like bushing ?

Mine cracked in half I cannot get the seat to fit properly anymore.

BTW always awesome what you are doing !!!

Yup, they are called pedestal seat bushings....

They don't last very long {usually only a couple of few years depending on usage}.
Just about every marine store carries them --- I believe I got mine from Overtons,--- but West Marine / Wholesale Marine / Eddie Marine alll carry them.
Good Luck
Kurt

Well, didn't get a chance to do much work on the Vision this weekend ---- most everything left is just small cosmetic stuff while I wait for replacement trim tab actuators and then I'll re-cut the tab planes just slightly for a little less reaction dynamic.

But, as I keep looking at the exhaust tips, I find myself more and more not really liking the look of the long style --- and I'm kinda tired of the angle cut.
visionproject249.jpg

The tips are actually almost a 11 inches long.
visionproject248.jpg

Soooo, a cuttin I go :shakehead:
To show how anal I am ---- I looked everywhere to see what lengths of tips were readily available from all the typical manufactures, -- I did this so I could cut mine to a length different than what everybody has {I just like the idea of being one of a kind}.
So I made my cut a 5 1/2 inches.
visionproject247.jpg

Threw on a couple nice rubber external flappers from EM.
Much betterer ----- really really like the new look --- this look definately fits the boat better.

Hmmmm, I guess the more tools a guy has, the more he can change his mind {and I have A LOT of tools}:D

Lookin great Kurt! CP Performance has a new set of tip flaps that are stainless and arent as noticible as the type you used......if you care. It could be another part that you could powdercoat!

Looks amazing man!

Thanks GF
I saw those flaps from CP and contemplated them ---- but I saw these rubbers on another Vision recently here in the forum and actually really liked the look of the black rubber -- matches the rest of the black and red combos of the boat.
Really only put them on for looks because my tips already have stainless internal flappers. {now double protection :D}

That looks really good Kurtster...you are a powder coating fool!!!!

HD

Well, I still have enough of the translucent red powder to still do quite a bit of coating ---- unfortunately there's nothing left on the boat to powder coat.

Hmmmm, I wonder how my Harley would look translucent red :shakehead:

Really like the pipes cut straight a lot more and the flappers are just so nice to look at when idling !

Wanna see a bit of my last weeks resto project ? ! ok , I will show you anyways cuz I am so proud.

Skeg replacement , bought a spool gun last year so I put it to the test.

Cut the old skeg off !

Thanks Buddy !!! Mean's a lot from a guy with a super trick Vision !

I was really proud of my work , my friend gave me a hand with the whole thing and to be honest both of us just stop and stair at it every-time we walk right next to the boat :)
