Tri-mate 2 over haul.

Yep I saw that. 94mph on an untouched hull that was 30 years old. I have seen the inside of a checkmate. They have about 3 times the fiberglass built into the hull.
But none the less when I go fast I have the kill switch hooked up and the lifejacket on.

Welcome to the board Pokey.

I will be working on the pad tomarro, I will get some updated pictures.
Thanks for asking and welcome to the board.

We want to see some more pictures. You got any paint on it yet? I have a picture of the pad on a Sportfire. It sould help you feel more secure with your new pad. I'll email it to ya so you can post it here for people to see that your pad ain't a bad idea.

The pad is progressing. I am down to the final prep work. Getting the sides and edges smooth. Should be ready for paint about the middle of Aug. The top of the pad is completed. Now just have to feather and make it all look good.

I saw pictures of that boat when it was for sale in the barn. Cleaned up nice. I like the part about the balsa core looking goo when it is sealed. Leave it to checkmate to figure out how to seal a core and do it right.
Its only a 1/2 a project. Just a floor. I can do that in my sleep. Pull the top 1/2 and did into the transom. Thats when the fun starts.

Awesome what you have accomplished!!!
I just bought a '75 trimate II without an engine for $675.00.
the interior looks like new, but the transom sounds like it is loose from the wood and the floor is rotten under the gas tank. I think I am going to follow your example and seperate the hull and go straight across with the new transom.

Big Dave, A major lesson I learned on mine is seperate the top from the bottom and dig out all the wood from the inside. I cut the outter skin and I regretted later. Took me forever to get the body lines right again.
Mine was also thicker than it needed to be. I could have just gone with 2 ply's of 3/4".
Shoot me an email if you have questions. I have a ton of pictures of what I did to mine. Helping is no trouble.

Thanks for the tip.
I am going to take the top off, and take the boat to my brother. he restores wooden boats for a living. He came up from Houston today and looked at the boat and said the same thing you did.
Wish us luck!!!
Still have to find a 175 or 200?? and a jack plate. I am not sure what setback to run on this hull.

Thats great. Another tri-mate saved. If you are going to take the boat someplace to do the transom leave the hull and top together. This will prevent the hull from loosing its shape.
I am going to run a 6" setback plate to start. I also have a set of 2" spacers that I can add.
I would think 6" would be engough.
With a 200 and the prop shaft 4" below the my boat would run right at 70 with a 25p laser 2 prop. They are a blast to drive.

Hey gus I saw my first trimate i/o today at the launch it was a 78 and in perfect condition.
I didnt know they made a trimate in i/o but you cant miss the hull lines of a trimate eh guys.hehehe

Still sanding on the pad. Trying to get everything as smooth as I can before its time to paint.
I would not want to do this for a living.
I HATE BODYWORK.

Well, tha saga continues. Kind of took a well needed break from the boat, so now its time to get back to work.
Just got done laying what I hope to be the last layer of resin in the low spots on the pad. Still have a bit of sanding to do here and there, but the primer is in sight. After its primes I will really be able to tell how well I did and what still needs some work. Ah the joy of sanding.

Hey Guys,

Just be careful if you visit the site that is linked to. They allow some porn, so it's definitely not a "work friendly" surfing site.

I got the $100.00 inline 6 running last week and took the boat for a quick ride.
No tach yet (had to make a new wiring harness), spedo only shows about 35 mph w/an old beatup 19p alum prop
