2001 Evinrude 250 HP FFI Problems

Sorry to hear that, CmPulse. Hang in there! I'm not sure what type of engineer you are but maybe with Boeing moving to town.......

I've already applied there. I've got a associates degree in engineering from the local tech school. I'm basically a piping designer that designs petro chem, pharmy and water/wastewater treatment plants. I can do civil design work as well. The good news if any is I don't have to sell anything, everything is paid for except the house.:thumb:

I'm also really sorry to hear this, I hope things get better for you, and I'm glad your in a position to keep the boat and everything else, good planning on your part.

Man Rob it sucks, at least you kind of had fore sight and planned well for it. Some people are so tapped out that they would file chapter 7 within a month of loosing their job. I am also lucky as the only real payment I have is the truck(a huge $279/month). Everything else is all payed for. If it was not for this, I would be in a world of hurt with my back deal. I say get the referb computer put in.

The only thing better than a day on the lake......... A day on the lake while getting paid by the system. You paid into it, use it to the max. If you don't them someone else that prob never paid into it will use all your hard earned money up.

Use the next few years doing boat work in the back yard to add CASH income. You got the talent and there is plenty of people out there that dont have the time or know how to do it. If in a couple years you can build your client list up, you may decide to stick it to the man and never go back to what you did before.

I've got few ideas to make some cash on the side, one of them being boat work. I've even applied at the local Lowes here so I can get a discount.:D But the good thing is I can pay the mortgage, utilities and insurance for at least 8 to 12 months before having to go back to work. Being frugal has it's benefits.:thumb:

Sorry to hear that Robbie. You will be back on top soon though... talented people always rise to the top.

Sorry about the temporary setback, but from every setback comes new opportunity. I've been there, hated it when it happened, but glad it did now. Sometimes you don't realize how far you can go forward until you take a step back.

In the mean time, look for a used ECU from a donor motor, get it cheap and get the boat going again. No better way to improve your mood or give you time to assess the situation than getting out on your boat. At least that is what works for me.

When it rains it pours....geez.

I don't know what I would do...fix the boat to keep my mind occupied or save the money in case a job doesn't come around right away.

Good luck buddy.

Wow! that sucks Robbie, being new here and just meeting you I can already tell you will be back on your feet in no time! Im going to try and get my starter mate this week end, so hopefully I can get you to help with that and get ya a little money for it!! I have found three other mates that im checking out, so I will keep ya posted! Strange your having trouble with your motor, I ve been a rude fan for years, owned many with no troubles...every Yammy or Merc ive own nothing but trouble, I guess some people arent supposed to have certain motors! I had om merc that I even had to cut the prop off!! and just this last week end i spun the hub om my fathers johnboat with a 15hp yammy, what the? spun a hub with a 15 makes no sense(and yes i hit nothing but a boat wave)... with that being said I dont trust any of the newer motors....gimmie carbs, I can work on them any time....to me EFI just doesnt belong on the water... the whole electical water thing....well im sure your motor will run strong whe you get it fixed, and you will be working again very soon!!! Ill take ya ou on my mate in the mean time so that you can get your water fix!! LOL

You never know what life will deal you. There is nothing any of us can say to change you chain of events. But keep your chin up. Good things come to those who deserve them.

Jim

It definitely sucks about your job. I've been through that when a company I worked for went out of business. Everyone there could see it coming, they'd lay off a couple of people every week until it was like a ghost town at the end. Everything did eventually work out ok for me, but dam, it sure wasn't any fun for quite a while.

Thanks Jim!!! I stashed all the OT money I made over the last 3 years for (rainy days) so we'll be ok for a while. Plus it helps being frugal and having everything paid for except the house. :thumb:

We've seen it coming for a while, the problem was other companies was going thru the same thing. So looking for another job was/is tough.

Sorry about the news on both fronts,At least your in a better part of the country right now for employment(and the weather or the gals aren't bad either)!I have a UM grad engineer neighbor who's at his 4th postion, not by choice since I moved to the into the hood eight yrs ago.So keep the chin up!

Hope you still on planning to attend cumberland eitherway! I hear I-40 is open.Tell u one thing about checkies,At lake Erie when it came to the big water,I was never left wanting for a ride to the Islands!

And theres alot to say about being frugal (the misses says cheap) I ask her "If I'm so cheap why am I broke all the time"?

Anyway GOOD LUCK and hope you make it over in July, Jeff

Rob,
I went through the exact same thing about 5 years ago. The company was under new management and the guys with the most time were the first to go. I was into the water and wastewater treatment industry also and had 25 years with the same company. the new people just gutted the company and didn't care one bit about what you contributed for the past 25 years.
I will tell you it is an opportunity to try new things that you probably wouldn't have thought about trying if you were to stay there in your comfort zone. Think about everything you always wanted to do and go for it.
It worked out for me and I know it will for you cause you are a stand out kinda guy!!
good luck buddy
