CT RIVER CHECKMATE "EVENT"

Man, Irene made a mess. Many of us still do not have power and the inland waterways still apear to be a mess. I was going to head for the salt in hope of clean water, but with all the confusion and clean-up I am going to stay local.

I am planning on checking out a few lakes tomorrow to find a party spot for the holiday weekend. Unfortunately, the CT River is a no go.

Hopefully I will see you guys on the CT in late Sept. or Oct....if not I will see you for boating 2012. :thumb:

Thanks.

Lake Congomond is good for Holidays. Went there on the 2 nd of July Lots of boaters!

River Down

Well fellow Checkmaters on the Connecticut River, its been 3 weeks since I fired up the Convincor because of the high water, but it looks as if this weekend is a go with cooler temperatures, meaning a few more ponies under the hatch!!! I hope to see any of You guys I met during the Summer months and think I will be doing a lot of cruising to catch up on some boating, this weekend!!!

I'm getting the itch bad! Mine has been sitting for a month now, first work, then hurricanes, then flooding. If I play my cards right I will be out there Sunday. Keeping my fingers crossed, gotta get a lot done by then.

Connecticut River

I went out both Saturday and Sunday with a few spots filled with debris but hit nothing on both days, but the cool air had my engine pushing out the ponies, helping it to turn my 26 Bravo Lab at 5000 rpm!!! The Speedo goes to 75 where I had it many times both days, making it a fantastic day!!! It looks as if next weekend will be perfect but am only planning to go out Sunday when it will be around 75 and clear!!!

The CT River Run is Scheduled for Oct 16th. anybody going to make it?
I'll be there. I will be the first time I have been able to get out there since last year.

Scream and Fly

Hey 225,thanks for the info on the Scream and Fly Connecticut River run because I haven't seen it on their site so was wondering when it will be held!!! I will make the run as I do every year, just to be amongst so many dedicated boaters braving what sometimes is very cool weather but enjoyed by everyone!!! They also have hot dogs and hamburgers at Haddam Meadows at the end of the meet, where everyone throws the BS till it gets dark, ending another boating season for most of Us here in Ct!!!

Hopefully, the weather will cooperate this year and it wont be delayed. But the past two years was great time even in late october. Cool in the morning and real nice in the afternoon.
Anyone checking out the performance boat swap meet in Old Saybrook on the Saturday before? I am going to make a weekend of it and go to both.

Barring any huge disaster, I will be there. Got a copilot I can count on this year. I usually take my girlfriend and her kids but they don't like the cold. Launching the Convincor alone is a pain in the butt in the current so a copilot is a good thing. Probably gonna launch in Hartford or Wethersfield Cove. I usually launch in east Hartford but I hear their docks floated away after Hurricane Irene. See you guys on the river!

The run is in a couple weeks Whos in definitly..maybe.. ?

How about Hotdaddy and atc250r ,82 predictor??

I'm leaning towards yes. But, the days of freezing my balls off on the water just to say I was there are long gone. ;)

If the weather is reasonable, I will be there. I don't need 75* and sunny, but 40 and windy ain't gonna happen. What a wimp I have turned into. LOL

What if we don't want Pizza? Is there anything else to do? Blue Oar??

Forcast says it will be nice. if you have theballs to believe a forecast 2 weeks out in N.E.
Last year and the year before it was sunny and warm, by early afternoon. tee shirt weather. Maybe a sweatshirt when you get moving.
I think the blue Oar is closed for the season but the I think the canoe club in middletown is open for beervreges and food. We were there last year for the "lumber run".

I have not been in the Canoe Club sense it change from America's Cup or whatever it used to be. I had heard at one point that they were not "boat" friendly.

I dont think they have any issue selling booze and food to anybody in a boat,
If they did they didnt show it. You just can't take the beer/drink from the bar area. I think you would have to be slightly tapped to own a restraunt on the waterfront and not be boater friendy. That just doesnt make sense, but you never know, some people are screwy.
Take a look at the youtube video of the "Ct river lumber run" someone posted. There were about 35-40 boats all lined up on the docks. It was a real good day, other than the houses and trees floating down the river.:eyecrazy:

Scream and Fly

I am having some oil issues with my Convincor but will as every year attend the meet on October the 16th,to finish off the boating season and hope to see a good turn out of Checkmates!!! I always launch at Haddam Meadows, where most guys winde up at the end of the day for boating chat, burgers and hot dogs!!!

Pretty unlikely but you never know. September was a bad month for bills (school taxes due) and October is hitting me with a couple of extra ones that only come twice a year. If things change I'll let you know.

Going to try to make it. Have a wedding to go to the night before. Its a 4.5 hr drive one way. If I dont take the boat I may ride with a buddy that is taking his 20ft red and white flame pulsare. He said I could sleep while he drives:thumb:
