CT RIVER CHECKMATE "EVENT"

OK guys how was the river? As usual, I had to work this weekend, partially to ensure that it wouldn't happen next weekend. I haven't been out for two months now, been tuning into this thread to live vicariously through everyone else. Just curious what shape the river is in after all the floods. See you all next weekend!

There was a decent amount of crap in the river yesterday. Enough where you had to pay attention and keep your speed under control. Although, I did open her up a few times on my run from Portland to Hamburg Cove. TONS of boat traffic. Many large cruisers heading north.

What a beautiful weekend! I saw a few Checkmates that I had not seen previously. A nice purple/white ZT240 and a 20' Red/Black I/O. I think it was either an Enchanter or Pursuader.

The foliage is terrible this year. We enjoy the Autumn runs so much becuase of all the nice colors along the river banks. This year it seemed that most of the trees are green or have no leaves at all. It must be a result of all the flooding/bad weather.

One more day for me and I am putting her away for the 2011 season.

I was out all weekend on the local lake here in R.I.. I was doing some fine tuning on the checkmate, and some pontooning on the party barge. It was like a bonus summer weekend.
I am heading to the Swapmeet in old saybrook saturday then, Out on the river for the run Sunday. I'll see you guys there.

Who is going to put in a haddam meadows?

-Ted

Scream and Fly

I will be putting in at Haddam Meadows as I do every year for the meet and Hamburgers after the end of the day, along with lots of BS'ing ending the 2011 boating season on a high note!!!! It seems my oil cooler sprung a leak, making my Convincor leave lots of oil in the river, but bought a new one so will be ready to go Sunday!!! Changing the oil cooler is much easier then rebuilding the engine so I am happy about that result!!!

I will likely drop in North of Haddam Meadows and wait for people to start making their way North.

Weather looks decent, should be fun.

Franz, I was swimming in that water (and it was damn cold).:shakehead:

Thanks for the updates guys. I'm gonna drop in North and head down...I think. I usually use East Hartford but I hear that they lost their docks. May tow down to Rocky Hill and toss it in there. We'll see you out there.

It's 9:30 PM on Friday. I just took a ride to check out the river. At Great River park in East hartford the water is 3/4 the way up the boat launch and they have the place roped off. The dock pilings that are usually about 10 ft above the dock are sticking up only about three feet above the water. I saw several large chunks of crap floating by in the five minutes I was there. As of right now it's not looking like I want to put my boat in the river. I can't believe this season. Also, to add insult to injury, the long rowboats will be having a regatta. They will be starting in Middletown and racing to Gildersleeve Island with races leaving in 15 minute intervals. The last time I ran into this mess, the cops were enforcing a zero ripple no wake for the entire race route.

It look like the run is postponed till next sunday. between the rain and the freakin rowboats. I just went by the river it look ok to me. I am gona put in tomorrow morning at haddam meadows and ru around a bit. I guess Ill have to avoid middle town.

That postponement really sux. Was this race just scheduled in the past couple days? I don't get it.

I went to the swap meet yesterday and had a nice time. Saw some really nice boats too!

I don't know if I will make it next weekend.:irked:

I was out on the river yesterday, I met Franz coming out of the haddam meadows ramp. ( Franz you still running with out a loss? there was some pretty stiff compatition out there yeaterday?)
There was a bunch of guys running all over the place,Jets, Cats, and performace V's It ended up to be a pretty nice day on the river. We ran from Haddam up the Middletown where we got stopped by the "Escort Boat" From the rowboat race. We decided to run back towards haddam and went as far south as essex. I am planning on heading back up next sunday if the weather cooparates.

I'm planning on being out there too. Looks like good weather for the weekend. Gotta get mine cleaned up, it's been sitting since mid August !

Scream and Fly

225 I was doing great up to when I met up too You but then got stupid and took on the Howard air packer that I know does the low 80's and got spanked on the top end!!! I usually try to take on v's like my Convincor but sometimes we get a little cocky and try out some of the big boys, who bring us back to reality lol!!!! At least my oil consumption issue is over by replacing my oil cooler,so that makes running wide open possible, along with the cool air allowing me to spin a Bravo 1-26 Lab at 5000 rpm.I am getting Big Stroke ready for this upcoming event Sunday before putting it to sleep for the winter months,to dream about the 2012 season, which we hope will be drier!!! Hope to see some of You guys out Sunday!!!!

Well I made the call. I am winterizing on Saturday. I have plans that I can't change on Sunday, so once again, I will miss the CT River Run.

Time to hibernate....

It was a pleasure meeting you all this summer!

Meeting Fellow Checkmate Owners

It was fantastic meeting a few of you guys after chatting on here and hope in the 2012 season we can do some cruises together, along with talking about our great Checkmate rides!!! This Sunday will end my season but if anyone else is going,we will meet up!!! To the other Checkmaters, see you in 2012 and be Safe!!!

I am planning on going sunday.this will be my last run as well. As long as this rain storm doesnt cause too much water. We are supposed to get 2-3 inches localy but there may be less farther west. so it may not cause any river issues. the weather report for sunday is 62-65 sunny.:thumb:
Franz, look over on SnF,ct river run thread if you havent already, there is a link to some good pics from sunday that laybug took.
