lake cumberland poker run!

lcboater

Well-known member
just got back from the lake cumberland poker run. had a great time ,even hooked up with a couple of checkmates at harmon creek. i probably saw 25 checkmates on saturday, we were well represented. i wish we could get everyone together for a raft up. it would be cool to get a picture of that!:D

Driving down I-75 today, I saw, 2 Checkmates headed north. A 28/300 and a 251. Probably 30 Baja's, untold Bayliners and others. About a dozen west coast style cats, a couple of Eliminators, a couple of Nordics, and a Kryptonite.

Lets work on getting a date setup. How about the first weekend of june? The 4th through the 6th????? Have the run on saturday the 5th of june. Any interest? Start at conley bottom, run to the dam then all tie up around the islands for pics and a little fun:thumb:

that sounds like a plan for the run . july or august might be better(water and weather) to make the run. we still have plenty of time but we do need to start making plans.:thumb:

july and august would also work for me. I think it being farther south, we might get some southern guys up and also some of us smaller boats that cant or dont want to deal with the rough waters of erie.

Checking google map and depending on what location at Lake Cumberland it's a 10 hour drive or 500 mile road trip for me.

Don't think I'll have my Enforcer done by then; I'll try to be there if y'all let me and the wife hang with my Crownie. Cumberland is only a few hours away. Any one know if the Corp still has the lake drawn down due to the repairs on Wolfcreek? No matter; if the dam breaks we'll raft to Nashville and party Music City style!

not a prolem, come on down and party with us. the lake is still down but it's not causing any problems.:thumb:

I believe the only cool spot that can't be had is all the way up to 76 falls.Pick a weekend and the best ramp and I'll start making plans!

Talk is cheap this time of year!:sssh:

76 falls is out, but thier are plenty of other party spots.i don't know what everyone will require as far as accomadations but i suggest conely bottom marina, jamestown resort & marina, lc state dock, or grider hill marina. all of them have web sights so you can look to see whats best for you. if you want to camp, the c.o.e. has a nice camp ground and ramp at the dam. if i can help anyone or answer any questions just let me know. i can't wait to get this going!

Can we make it on a holiday weekend. The vacation schedule came out today and I have 11 days off for Mermorial day weekend & 11 days off for the forth of July weekend.Plus pick up any leftover weekends I can thru the summer. This should be another good summer. :thumb:
Hope the weather shows up!

As for accomadations I'll stay on the boat or if theres a camp ground on the lake I could or would pitch a tent. But no more than that.

i have a lot of time of around july 4 , if that works for everyone else. there is plenty of camping and lodging around the lake but we usually party on the boat all night long!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:cheers::cheers::cheers:

IMHO most already have plans for the 4th of July weekend as it
is a huge boating weekend if you are a boater! For instance, we
will be at Lake Cumberland 7/4 unless an unforeseen circumstance
derails that annual plan. I suggest a weekend that has been used
for the cmpr in the past, late July or early August. I don't think the
dates were the problem, it has been a location issue, the under 25'
Checkmates are afraid of the unpredictable Erie and rightly so, because
when she is rough, she is real rough and the little boats have to stay at
the dock or take an Erie beating! If this party is moved to big flat
water like Cumberland there will be a much bigger turnout and the
potential for one helluva party! Warmer climate, warmer water, better
times! Again, just my humble opinion. I'll be there, regardless, will you?;)

I sent a PM to Kip and asked what they thought about moving it to LC and making it the Official checkmate poker run. I told him I did understand if they wanted to keep it up there since it was close to them. I also told him that I would help in any way in setting it up that they needed. It would be a great thing if checkmate decided to run with us on this. If they dont then we will have to set a date as to not interfear with their plans as it would split those up between some there and some here. Hopefully I hear something back about his and checkmates thoughts on it being on cumberland.

As for 7-4, I was planing on being in Utah but that is not set in stone as of yet.

it would be great if checkmate jumped on board, looks like this thing is really taking off. we already have a lot of people willing to participate and we need to set a date so they can start making plans. lake cumberland is a central location and if we put the word out we can get people that might not normally be interested. like dog school said, it's a big lake with plenty of room but smaller boats won't have any problems with rough water.

Sounds like a great idea. Any thoughts on using State Docks houseboats as boatels. I think its very reasonable.

I am at LOTO on 7/4 most every year, last year being the only exception and we went to Table Rock.

We might be able to make Cumberland, but we always vacation with several close friends and their families.

Regardless, i definitely want to get to Cumberland this year. All i need is 30 days notice for vacation.
