Yellowfiero's enchanter resto!

yellowfiero88

Well-known member
Well not much of a resto to the level of "Wasted Income"....more so tinkering of my enchanter! I want to do some things to make it more user friendly and also look more modern.

Plans are add swim platform, paint out drive, new gauges, new interior from checkmate, some new deck hardware, and some changes to the trailer. I am keeping the stock power in her until she blows, then I will consider dropping the 383 into it. Hopefully that decision is a long way away!

Swim platform!
I also added SS cup holders on both sides. Nothing worse than a wave knocking your KY-Koolaid into the water:thumb:

Painted outdrive
Looks 100% better than it did even tho its only a rattle can job! That merc phantom black is some thick stuff and covers great

Trailer upgrades (more coming)
I added a electric winch to make loading easier! All self contained with a 24 series battery and automatic charger built in. 2000# winch with auto brake should work great. I also cut off the old double post stop and the old winch stand and replaced it with a fully adjustable one. I got some more to do to it but am very limited to who comes down and how long I can point fingers!!

She also got a very good scrubbing and finally got all the soot removed from the fire. Amazing enough, it cleans up very nice for rustoleum paint :)

Interior
Going to call Mike monday and get it in stone. I am going to go with all red, black piping, silver carbon fiber double stripes, and black single stripes. The color was chosen because the new greys dont match right, and the silver carbon would be to much for the entire interior, and black would be to hot! Carpet will prob be black:surf:
old / new
grey / red
black / silver carbon fiber

As you can see, the back seat and carpet are plum worn out. The rest of the interior is in good shape. Still amazing for 26 years old!
Gauges
The old gauges complete with custom fiber trim rings!

I need to make a choice on gauges. Color face, rim color, and trim ring color. I am thinking maybe a silver face, red rim, black trim rings???? I want a GPS speedo as long as it don't break the bank ;)

i like the idea of taking off the old dual post stop and adding the winch. that should help at the launch expecially with your bad back! are you going to re-do the green "checkmate" on the trailer or leave it? overall the boat seems to be in pretty good shape overall, should be a nice solid boat when you get her all fixed up the way you want it:thumb:

The dual post was the easiest setup ever to load. However with all stock iron parts on this one, it made the trailer ass heavy. The only way to center the weight and get some on the tongue was to cut the post off and start over. Not to mention the post setup was hard on the rub rail. I am going to add a "V" shaped wood bunk to align the boat as it comes up the trailer. At that point, it should load very easy :bounce:
Green checkmate has to go!! looks funny with a red and silver flake boat;) I am going to touch it up for now and maybe next year, sandblast the trailer and repaint it

Looking good

Here is the interior colors

I think I got it that you can't find a grey to match the stripe on the boat or the "Dove grey" that was the existing interior color so your going to change that to red. Sound reasoning, but I think you will have too much red if you replace all the grey with red. I would try keeping the insert part of the seating in a lighter color and only change the outer band part of the grey to red.

I love the boat and agree that it is a great find. I really like the old checkmates that were solid color boats. Your boat and "Justincases" old exciter are my favorite all flake colors:bigthumb: Good luck with the clean up project.

Thanks for the input! I was thinking the same thing originally but the problem is there is no way to match it to the front seats and make it all look the same. Checkmate only does the same pattern as what was original and I am still unsure if they will let me customize the colors. I am thinking the different color piping will break it up a lot. Right now, I am going back and forth between the silver carbon fiber and black for piping. I will call Mike tomorrow and talk with him about custom color placement :)

It sounds like you're recovering nicely from your surgery. Glad to see you're up and about albeit on a limited basis.
Its been pretty rough. I have helped washed the trailer and wired the winch. Other than that, Megan and my buddy Evan have done the rest of the work so far. If the boat was not at the house right now, I would be doing noting on it with the way I feel. I had to get the boat sitting on the trailer the right way before my surgery but just flat ran out of time. Now I need to get it back to the dealer as it is going to sit in their heated showroom till spring!:D The plus side is, when I start feeling better, I can go down and work on it there. I am also leaning towards doing the complete interior not because its rotten or the foam is shot. But because it will be a lot easier on the install. It is looking like Doug (Horseplay1) and maybe a couple others are getting elected to help with the carpet and interior:cheers:

Thats a good looking boat. I hope you don't run into rot with the wet floor and water stains up the rear seat

No rot, what you are seeing wipes right off. I tapped on all the interior, floor, stringers, transom, flotation boxes, and engine mounts. There is some core issues but very, very minor. I will fix that in a year or so, I am finding it hard to remove the original solid floor to gain access to a small repair. When I do it, I might even send it out to Kevin, the guy who did Nicks 24 glass work.

Ordered the interior today from Mike @ Checkmate. Did a complete frames, foam, and vinyl as it will be easiest for me to install. Plus, I have a complete interior for someone who is looking to get their boat on the water. The back seat is the only item that is what I would consider "in need or repair". Buckets, side panels, and sun pads are all good to great shape.

Red with silver piping, silver/black/silver accent stripes! There is less piping on the new interior, sounds like it is only where interior meets the fiberglass. Everything else is now double stitched.

I was gonna suggest replace the grey area with white like my interior (white, red, black, red, white). That's until I looked at the boat colors again.:D
